BU – Queen Mary International Tax Conference

Friday, June 4, 2004

The Boston University Graduate Tax Program and the Queen Mary School of Tax Law at the University of London have announced a July 13 Conference in London on UK and US Tax Developments: Tax Shelter Reporting, Cross-Border M&A, and Transfer Pricing. Here is part of the announcement:

The UK Finance Bill 2004 contains provisions requiring the reporting of tax shelters. Similar tax shelter reporting requirements were introduced in the United States several years ago, and the UK Government’s decision to introduce these rules seem to have been prompted in part by the US experience.
The Graduate Tax Program at Boston University School of Law and the School of Tax Law at Queen Mary, University of London are holding a one-day conference to examine in-depth both the proposed UK legislation and the US experience. The panelists include high ranking representatives from the UK Inland Revenue and the US Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service as well as eminent UK and US private practitioners. The timing of the conference falls, incidentally, between the end of the consultation period on the draft regulations issued by the Inland Revenue and the commencement of the new regime on August 1.
The conference also will review recent US and UK international tax developments, with a particular focus on cross-border mergers and acquisitions and transfer pricing.
