Beale Profiled in Chicago Daily Law Bulletin

Tuesday, August 10, 2004

Linda Beale (Illinois), recently profiled on TaxProf Blog, was featured in the July 23 Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. Here is the wonderful opening:

As a professor who started out in the Peace Corps in the 1960s and then became a tax lawyer, Linda M. Beale has an idealist’s view of the purpose of taxes. “Ultimately, the tax system is the redistributive mechanism we have in government that helps prevent the development of oligarchy and helps maintain a more or less egalitarian society,” said Beale, an assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Law. Currently, in Beale’s view, tax lawyers and accountants are under pressures that can “erode ethical standards.”
