The ABA Tax Section is offering today the third of three CLE teleconferences on the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 on Hummer Write-Offs, Car Donations and Other Highlights of the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 That Affect Individual Taxpayers from 1:00 – 2:30 pm EST:
The American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 contains a number of significant changes affecting individual taxpayers. Many of these changes are effective for the 2004 tax year. Follow the story of Terry Taxpayer as she confronts the new tax law changes by engaging in everyday, ordinary life events. Terry has the opportunity to become familiar with the new "above-the-line" deduction for attorneys fees in certain civil rights cases, and learn how this deduction impacts her alternative minimum tax liability. She also discovers that the tax write-offs she had anticipated for her new Hummer have changed, but that a new sales tax deduction may help her out. Terry struggles to understand the rules governing like-kind exchanges and her principal residence. Finally, at yearend, when Terry takes her old Hummer to her favorite charity to make a donation, she discovers that charitable contributions aren’t as simple as they used to be. Our distinguished panel, through Terry Taxpayer’s travails, will provide information and insight into the latest tax code revisions as they affect individual taxpayers.
The panelists are:
Mona Hymel (Arizona)
Roberta Mann (Widener)
Gail Levin Richmond (Nova)
