Tax Karaoke: Judges, IRS Officials, and Practitioners “Get Down” at Tax Court Judicial Conference

Tax_analysts_91 This week’s Tax Notes contains a blow-by-blow account of Tax Karaoke, 107 Tax Notes 655 (May 2, 2005), also available on the Tax Analysts web site as Doc 2005-8710, 2005 TNT 84-48:

Attendees of the April 21 dinner after the Tax Court’s Judicial Conference were treated to the unusual experience of judges [Tax Court Judges Harry Haines, Diane Kroupa & Michael Thornton] current [Rich Goldman (IRS Office of Chief Counsel) & Don Korb (IRS Chief Counsel)] and former [Pam Olson (former Treasury Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy) & Emily Parker (former acting IRS Chief Counsel)] government officials, a law professor [Denise Roy (William Mitchell)], and practitioners [Bill Wilkins (Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr)] getting down.

After reading the lyrics to Don the Don (an ode to Don Korb sung to the tune of Mack the Knife) and That’s How It Is:  The Ballad of Commissioner v. Banks (sung to the tune of It’s In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)), we can all be grateful that apparently no recording exists of these tax stylings!  (The article notes that the entertainment for next year’s Tax Court Judicial Conference will be American Tax Court Idol.)
