The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development opens its two-day Global Forum on International Tax Policy today in Melbourne, Australia. For the sixth straight year, the Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation and Australia’s Centre for Independent Studies co-hosted a conference the day before the OECD Forum, on Tax Competition:
Australia has prospered in today’s global economy. As the Coalition government’s mood leans further from federalism, our states are baring criticism for competing for investment and productive resources. The time has come for Australia to reassess our taxation system and to state our place in the global economy as a competitive country. To do this we must resist fiscal imperialism by lowering tax rates, embarking on real tax reform and implementing competitive policies to ensure Australia can compete with Hong Kong, Singapore, China, and India, as well as the rest of the world.
