Indiana Faculty Votes “No Confidence” in University President

Iulogoandsealsmall_1Today’s Chronicle of Higher Education reports that the faculty council at Indiana-Bloomington yesterday voted "no confidence" in President Adam W. Herbert, Jr.’s leadership:

The resolution, which passed overwhelmingly by a show of hands, lists several "serious allegations" that faculty members said have been made against the president by various people, including senior administrators, board members of foundations, major donors, alumni, and business and government leaders in the state. The complaints generally portray Mr. Herbert as a weak leader who has often stood idly by as the university’s reputation in the state has suffered.

Among other allegations, the resolution says that Mr. Herbert repeatedly failed to meet with donors and other key constituents, risked the university’s ability to secure a major research grant by neglecting to respond promptly to the granting institution, and generally exhibited a "profound lack of visibility in key public and professional settings, leading to direct negative consequences for the university."
