Turnipseed on the Supreme Court’s Anna Nicole Smith Decision

TurnipseedTax Prof Terry L. Turnipseed (Syracuse) offers his thoughts on the Supreme Court’s decision yesterday in the Anna Nicole Smith case (Marshall v. Marshall, No. 04–1544 (5/1/06)) in this Syracuse press release:

Terry L. Turnipseed, an experienced estate planning and tax advisor, attended the Feb. 28 oral argument before the Supreme Court in Marshall v. Marshall, a bitter inheritance battle over the $1.6 billion estate of Smith’s late husband. In several interviews following the oral arguments, Turnipseed predicted today’s outcome.

After reading today’s opinion, Turnipseed says Anna Nicole should temper her joy. “Today the court has given Anna Nicole a clear, unanimous legal victory on her ability to continue her legal fight—a fight that may well prove to be fool’s gold,” he says. “There are still some tough legal issues waiting for Anna Nicole when she makes it back to the California federal courts. I would be surprised if she ever sees a dime out of this exceptionally lengthy legal war.”
