Kudos to Sandy Holo, who will receive the Dana Latham Award at a luncheon at today’s annual meeting of the Los Angeles Bar Association Tax Section:

Sanford Holo is considered one of the most prominent tax lawyers in California. For more than forty years, he has practiced as a tax and transactional lawyer, with a special interest in real estate and partnership taxation. He is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Musick, Peeler & Garrett LLP.

Mr. Holo has frequently served as an adjunct professor at LL.M. and M.B.T. programs and is currently teaching Tax Planning for Real Estate Transactions in the Graduate Tax Program of Loyola Law School. He has lectured extensively in the field of taxation before many professional and educational organizations, including the USC Institute on Federal Taxation, Practicing Law Institute, California Continuing Education of the Bar, the Taxation Section of the State Bar of California, and the California Society of Public Accountants. He has published a number of pieces over the years and most recently served as one of the authors of "Self-Employment Taxes and Pass-Through Entities: Where Are We Now" which appeared in Tax Notes in October, 2005.

I have had the privilege of meeting Sandy on a few occasions.  He is one of those rare people whose intelligence, humor, and good cheer light up a room.

The Keynote Speaker is George K. Yin (Virginia).  Sandy’s wife, Ellen Aprill, will present him with the award, which is especially memorable for them as they met through the Tax Section of the County Bar when Ellen was its Chair and will be celebrating their 10th annivesary in a couple weeks.

The luncheon is from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel, 251 South Olive Street , Los Angeles.
