Former Congressional Candidate Farnsworth, Who Said No One Is Obligated to Pay Federal Income Tax, Convicted of Tax Evasion

Farnsworth_1Jim Maule (Villanova) blogs the tale of former Libertarian Congressional candidate Arthur L. Farnsworth, who during his campaign argued that no one is legally obligated to pay federal income tax and that he himself did not pay federal income tax.  (Farnsworth maintains this elaborate anti-tax web site.)  A federal district court jury in Philadephia on Friday convicted him of tax evasion.  From the Philadephia Inquirer:

During direct examination by attorney Mark Lane, Farnsworth said he had come to this conclusion after conducting his own intense legal research. Farnsworth, 43, agreed with the government’s estimate that he had grossed about $220,000 in 1998, 1999 and 2000. But he disagreed with the IRS’s determination that he owed about $82,000 in taxes for those years.
