The IRS announced today (IR-2007-185) that e-filing of tax returns set a record for the tenth consecutive year [click on chart to enlarge]:
Of the 80 million e-field returns in 2007, 22.6 million were by taxpayers doing their own returns (up 11.3% from last year (20.3 million)), and 57.4 million were by tax professionals (up 8.5% from last year (52.9 million)).
The IRS also announced that the direct deposit of tax refunds (61.4 million) and visits to the IRS web site (196.2 million) also set records this year (up 8% and 10%, respectively, from 2006).
