Chronicle of Higher Education: U. of Georgia Abruptly Halts Some Research Leaves for Faculty Members, by Robin Wilson:
Citing looming state budget cuts, administrators at the University of Georgia have canceled faculty research leaves for this coming academic year, just days before the semester is to begin. But confusion reigns on the campus as to the precise effect of the cancellations, and which professors who were due to have such leaves in the coming academic year will be affected. University officials gave The Chronicle conflicting assessments.
Arnett C. Mace Jr. the university’s provost, made the decision to cancel the leaves, which allow professors to take either a semester off at full pay or a year off at half pay. The decision was announced on Wednesday by deans at the institution’s various colleges, who were instructed to implement that decision.
