The Charles Evans Gerber Transactional Studies Program at Columbia hosts the Seventh Deals Roundtable on Tax Policy and Tax Administration for the 21st Century:
The Roundtable will focus on the critical tax policy and tax administration questions facing the new President, Congress, and the IRS in the coming years. The luncheon speaker will be Edward Kleinbard, Chief of Staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation. After lunch, Michael Graetz, Justus S. Hotchkiss Professor at Yale Law School who will be joining the Columbia Law School faculty next year, will present his plan for a fundamental tax reform described in his newly published book. Next, Professor David Schizer, the Dean of Columbia Law School, and Professor Thomas Merrill, our former Columbia colleague who now teaches at Yale, will discuss their proposal to use a revenue neutral gas tax to set a floor on the gas prices. Finally, Alex Raskolnikov will lead a roundtable discussion examining the seemingly unconstrained enforcement discretion that may allow the IRS to have a major impact on the fundamental policy choices reflected in the U.S. tax system.
