New data from the IRS show that only 0.3 percent of deaths in the U.S. in 2009 resulted in federal estate tax liability in 2010. … The nearby table shows that those 0.3 percent of estates of people who died in 2009 were taxed at an effective rate of about 19 percent by the federal government.
