Georgetown announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the IRS to offer Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses to the IRS Office of Chief Counsel:
The Law Center will collaborate with Chief Counsel to develop and deliver distance learning CLE courses starting in 2012. … During the first year of the contract, Georgetown will provide six graduate-level tax law CLE courses to IRS personnel and others in the field. The courses will be taught by Law Center faculty, many of whom have significant government and public policy experience, in addition to their academic work and scholarship.
The course offerings will be drawn from those currently offered by the Law Center’s Tax LL.M. program, but customized with assistance from Chief Counsel subject-matter experts to highlight issues of importance to the IRS. They will be delivered via distance learning media to classroom locations nationwide. A limited number of CLE credits earned in the IRS program can be transferred to Georgetown Law and applied toward the Tax LL.M.
NYU has been awarded the IRS's CLE contract since 1981.
