Following up on Saturday's post on the July 2024 California Bar Exam results for in-state law schools: the state bar has released comparable data for out-of-state law schools. Overall, 53.8% of all applicants passed the California bar exam. Among graduates of ABA-accredited law schools, first-time takers from in-state law schools passed at a higher rate (81.0%) than first-time takers from out-of-state law schools (74.6%).
Out-of-state law schools with the highest pass rates:
Cornell: 100% (16 students took the exam)
Minnesota: 100% (12)
NYU: 96.6% (29)
Duke: 96.3% (27)
Penn: 96.0% (25)
Harvard: 94.4% (72)
Virginia: 93.3% (15)
BYU: 92.3% (13)
Chicago: 90.9% (33)
Yale: 88.2% (17)
Michigan: 86.7% (30)
Boston College: 86.7% (15)
Columbia: 86.5% (37)
Boston University: 85.7% (14)
Washington University: 85.0% (20)
Texas: 82.4% (17)
Northeastern: 81.8% (11)
Georgetown: 80.0% (55)
Out-of-state law schools with the lowest pass rates:
Gonzaga: 41.7% (12 students took the exam)
Loyola-Chicago: 45.5% (11)
New England|Boston: 53.8% (13)
Oregon: 55.0% (20)
George Washington: 70.4% (27)
Northwestern: 73.1% (26)
University of Washington: 73.3% (15)
Notre Dame: 75.0% (12)
Illinois: 76.9% (13)
