Bloomberg, Bush-Era Lawyer Picked by Trump to Serve as Top IRS Attorney:
President Donald Trump nominated former IRS chief counsel Donald Korb [Sullivan & Cromwell] to be the top lawyer again at the tax agency.
Korb would take over the spot after Marjorie Rollinson resigned at the end of the Biden administration, and join the IRS as it faces unprecedented turmoil. The chief counsel role is one of two Senate-confirmed positions, in addition to the commissioner.
The IRS chief counsel leads the office that crafts regulations and other guidance, advises other divisions of the IRS during audits, and provides general legal services to the agency. The acting chief counsels have been central in the discussions surrounding taxpayer privacy and the immigration agreement with the Department of Homeland Security. …
Korb, who is currently counsel at Sullivan and Cromwell LLP, served as the chief counsel during the administration of former President George W. Bush.
