The inaugural conference, The Role of Law Schools in Advancing the Rule of Law, will take place in person and virtually on November 8, 2025 at the Osgoode Hall Law School. The conference emerged from an international discussion among law deans led by Professor Hari Osofsky, who convened academic leaders to consider how legal education can respond to escalating global threats to the rule of law. Designed as a forum for collaboration and problem-solving, the program will bring together deans, faculty, lawyers, judges, and others committed to strengthening and protecting the rule of law in their institutions and communities.
The program includes:
• Deans from around the world: E. Kofi Abotsi, Petra Butler, Martin Hogg, Tamara Lawson, Andreas Paulus, and Donna Young
• Leaders from major rule of law and legal organizations: Adrian Di Giovanni, William Hubbard, Lauren Robel, Sudha Setty, Shauna Van Praagh, Peter Wardle
➤ Keynotes:
• The Honourable Michael H. Tulloch, Chief Justice of Ontario
• Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General of Canada Shalene Curtis-Micallef
➤ Breakout Sessions focused on developing innovative civic education and collaborative research and teaching.
