This first post from me is a brief self-introduction. My “regular” legal education posts will kick off soon enough.
The bio block below provides the usual CV-style details. Here is some additional context:
I started blogging back in 2004 and eventually published or co-published blogs about law and technology (madisonian.net (2005-2020) and IP and IT Conferences (2005-2016)); cities and economic development (Pittsblog (2004-2013)); my Pitt Law faculty colleagues (2007-2014); and my Pittsburgh suburb (2005-2009). I shifted eventually to podcasting (The Future Law Podcast (2019-2023) and now Your Leadership Podcast (2025-?)) and, a year ago, started a Substack newsletter.
Along the way, I learned a lot about institutions and governance (broadly) and legal education (specifically) especially in the context of legaltech; the changing economics of law practice; leadership and change in legal institutions; community and context at various scales, and relationships among law schools around the world and systems of education full stop, including colleges and universities. The kind folks at AALS having invited me to step into blogging again, those themes will anchor my contributions here.
Thanks not only to AALS for the invitation but also, of course, to Paul Caron, for stewarding TaxProf Blog so thoughtfully and consistently for so long.
