AALS Rosenblatt’s Deans Database
Professor and Dean Emeritus Jim Rosenblatt has collected information on sitting law deans. I was once on the list but, for better and worse, am no longer. I always enjoyed seeing Jim at the AALS annual meeting. He seemed to stop by and say hello to deans at many law school receptions.
As dean, I always pondered the names on the database and thought about the longevity of some deans. Good faculties, student bodies, and university administrators contribute to law deans staying around. So Marquette must be a special place!
Dean Joseph D. Kearney of Marquette currently is the longest serving law dean at 22.38 years. That is an amazingly long time, with many challenges and milestones — the 2008 recession and drop in law school applications, a global pandemic, artificial intelligence, student protests, etc. Congratulations to Dean Kearney and Marquette!
