On Wednesday, Paul Clement participated in the oral argument in the United States Supreme Court, representing Lisa Cook, a member of the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors, in Trump v. Cook. Josh Blackman (South Texas) notes that “[b]y the end of this term, Paul Clement will have argued nine or even ten cases—roughly twenty percent of the merits docket. I think this is a modern record for a lawyer not in the SG’s office.” That will bring the number of Supreme Court oral arguments delivered by Paul to 130 or 131. Josh praises Paul: “Even where I disagree with Clement (which seems to be happening more and more of late), I still marvel at his advocacy skills. And on that point, it is a credit that Clement can argue cases on both sides of the aisle. Progressive litigators are less likely to take that path.”

On Thursday Paul came to Pepperdine with his wife Alexandra and (1) spoke to the 1L class and our community at 9:00 am, in conversation with Colten Stanberry (J.D. 2019, Pepperdine), managing director of our Ken Starr Institute for Faith, Law, and Public Service (the event was sponsored by the Ken Starr Institute, William French Smith Lecture Series, and Dean’s Speaker Series); (2) co-taught a 1L Constitutional Structure class with Bob Pushaw; (3) had lunch and dinner with faculty and staff; and (4) concluded his day with us by speaking at the Dean’s Bible Study:
