In a time when streaming has become the rage and binging is now a common way to watch television, many people — myself included — are continuously on the prowl for a new series. A few weeks back, Dean Austen Parrish blogged about the National Jurist list of “Best legal shows to watch: 18 realistic and entertaining law series.” The list offers a full range of binging possibilities for law students, lawyers, and judges.
Here are the National Jurist’s verdict on the top spots for most realistic and entertaining:
Most Realistic: The Lincoln Lawyer. Based on a best-selling book series by Michael Connelly, this series tells fascinating stories of grisly murders and what happens in the courtroom. I found the series to be engaging and always intriguing. Born in Los Angeles but raised in Mexico, Mickey Haller is a great lawyer protagonist. He is related to master detective Harry Bosch (another character of author Michael Connelly and another bingeworthy series). Is the Lincoln Lawyer “realistic”? I am less sure. There are certainly a few truly wild twists and turns. Expect murders, motorcycle gangs, LA scenery, cool cars, and a bit of law thrown in.

Most Entertaining: Elsbeth
‘Elsbeth’ Trailer | New Series Thursday February 29
I have watched some episodes in this series. A “feel good mystery” series with an extremely offbeat, perhaps loveable, but definitely weird crime sleuth who makes Columbo seem rather ordinary. Entertaining to some perhaps. Elsbeth certainly belongs in the entertaining rather than realistic category.
The National Jurist provides many other possibilities of realistic and entertaining crime series. Check out the article to find something new to watch.
