During the first week of June, thanks to a recommendation from Vermont Law Professor (and my former colleague) Alexandra Meise, I had the privilege of attending the National Security Seminar at the U.S. Army War College. While there I attended a lecture delivered by and several discussion sessions led by Professor and Retired Lieutenant Colonel, John Nagl. He was extraordinarily thoughtful and only later did I learn that he’s one of the nation’s most prominent intellectuals focused on military strategy in general and counterinsurgency in particular. So I read his memoir Knife Fights and found it both highly engaging, marvelously candid and non-partisan, and educationally valuable about military strategy and the future of war. I highly recommend it.
