Above the Law, Teenage Law Grad Thinks Getting A Tax LLM Will Be A ‘Little Vacation’
His idea of rest and relaxation involves the Internal Revenue Code.

Daily Northwestern, 18-Year-Old Prodigy Jimmy Chilimigras Attends Pritzker for Specialized Degree:

Eighteen-year-old Jimmy Chilimigras spent this past summer reading fantasy novels, playing pickleball, going to the beach — and studying for the Louisiana Bar Exam.

In May, he graduated from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, making him one of the youngest-ever law school graduates. Now, he is seeking a specialized LLM in Taxation from Northwestern’s Pritzker School of Law. …

During his time at Loyola, Chilimigras said Pritzker Prof. Philip Postlewaite, the director of Pritzker’s tax program, visited the school and shared his personal contact with Chilimigras. As no other program directors came, according to Chilimigras, Postlewaite’s visit stuck out to him.

A year later, Chilimigras was purchasing a required textbook for a tax law course when he noticed the name of the author: Postlewaite, who he called a “tax legend.” While researching options for his specialized law degree, NU stayed on his list, and when he learned of the program’s smaller class sizes, he was sold. The University stood out from other institutions in the areas that mattered most to him, Chilimigras said.

“It was that community aspect that the school intentionally developed that drew me to Northwestern,” he said. 

Chilimigras added that he appreciated the University’s show of “great faith” by offering him a dean’s scholarship. …

His time at NU will last a year, and after he completes the degree, Chilimigras said he isn’t sure what will come next. He said he likes to keep looking forward, hoping to follow his passion for helping others. For now, though, he is eagerly awaiting his year in Chicago. 

“I think it’ll be fun,” Chilimigras said. “I like tax, so I think it’s going to be like a little vacation.”
