Tax Prof Injured Filing Tax Return

Ann Murphy (Gonzaga) reports on her October 16 tax filing experience:

Yet again, I filed an extension on our personal income tax return this year. And of course, the return was due to be mailed by Monday. Although I had already prepared the return, I found a new 2005 charitable contribution that I had previously neglected to put on the return. Being the cheap person that I am, I decided to add it to my return on Monday – Monday afternoon, to be exact. To be really exact, late Monday afternoon.

At 10 minutes to 5, I was running down my stairs at home in order to make it to the post office on time. I slipped on about the sixth step up. I had learned from my sons’ judo class that you try to rotate as you fall to break the fall. Apparently "rotate" is the correct word, as I tore my rotator cuff. Now I have a lovely new piece of clothing that I get to wear for a while to "stabilize" my shoulder. Decision on surgery is on the way. The good news is that I made it (tears and all) to the post office and got it mailed! And the charitable contribution saved me a big $17!
