The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration has agreed to investigate whether an IRS employee improperly steered more than $500 million in government contracts to Signet Computers, after receiving this letter from House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chair Darrell Issa.
Washington Post,
House Committee Investigating $500 Million in Contracts Between IRS, Computer Company:
“At best, this is a conflict of interest that runs afoul of …
Federal Acquisition Regulation,” Issa writes. “At worst, the IRS may
have a situation in which a contracting official is awarding sole source
contracts based on false justifications, or receiving kickbacks in
exchange for government contracts.” … The IRS’ contracts with
Signet Computers also may have been tailored so that Signet was the only
company that could win them in open bidding, Issa writes.
