ABA Tax Section Presents 2005 Law Student Tax Challenge

Aba_tax_18 The ABA Section of Taxation Young Lawyers Forum presents the 5th Annual Law Student Tax Challenge ("LSTC").  This year for the first time, both J.D.s and LL.M.s attending ABA-accredited law schools are invited to participate in the one of the country’s largest and most prestigious tax competitions.

The LSTC is designed to reflect everyday tax practice more accurately than traditional moot court competitions.  The LSTC asks students to solve a complex business problem that might arise in everyday tax practice. Two-person student teams submit a technical memorandum and client letter describing a proposed solution. A panel of judges selects the top six J.D. teams and the top four LL.M. teams, who will then travel to the Tax Section’s Mid-Year Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana in January 2006 to compete in oral rounds. The top-performing students will be recognized before the Section of Taxation and receive prizes, including monetary awards.

The problem and rules will be released on the ABA Tax Section’s web site here on September 8.  For more information, contact the competition co-chairs, Thomas Greenaway or Veronica Rouse.  For the results of the 2001-2004 competitions, see here.
