Following up on my January post: the Pew Economic Policy Group today launches the full version of its Tax Expenditure Database:
Pew’s Subsidyscope presents a first-of-its-kind database of federal tax expenditure estimates from the Department of Treasury (Treasury) and the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT). The database allows users to easily view specific tax expenditures from either Treasury or JCT and, in many cases, make side-by-side comparisons of different government estimates of the same tax expenditure. Users can select and aggregate tax expenditures across budget function or economic sector (such as Energy or Transportation), or drill down to find information about individual tax expenditures. With this database, users can:
- Select a particular tax expenditure to find both Treasury and JCT estimates reported each year from 2001 to the present.
- View aggregate totals of tax expenditures for all individuals or all corporations, or both individuals and corporations combined.
- See how single or aggregate tax expenditure estimates change from year to year, using historical estimates of each federal tax expenditure.
- View aggregate totals for all tax expenditures in the energy, housing or transportation sectors.
- Download all of the data in order to perform their own analyses.
