2005 Woodworth Lecture on Tax Law

The annual Laurence Neal Woodworth Lecture on Federal Tax Law and Policy again will be given in conjunction with ABA Tax Section May Meeting in Washington, D.C. In a break from tradition, this year’s lecture will consist of a panel discussion on The Role of Tax Policy in the Development of Tax Legislation: Larry Woodworth’s Era and Today among former Treasury and Congressional officials — including those who personally worked with Larry Woodworth – who will provide insights on the role of tax policy then and now in light of changes in the Congress and the Tax-Writing Committees; the Treasury Department and the role of the White House; and the Federal budget and the impact of deficits.

Panelists:

  • Bill Archer
  • Michael Graetz
  • Mark McConaghy
  • Pam Olson
  • Lindy Paull
  • Bob Shapiro

The 2004 Woodworth Lecture by Joseph Bankman (Stanford) (previously blogged here and here), Tax Enforcement:  Tax Shelters, the Cash Economy, and Compliance Costs, was just published as 31 Ohio N.U. L. Rev. 1 (2005).

The Ohio Northern University Law Review has issued a call for tax papers in connection with the publication of the 2005 Woodworth Lecture in Volume 32, Issue 1 to be published in Winter 2005.  To be considered for publication in that issue, tax papers must be submitted to the law review by September 1, 2005.  For more information, see here.  Darryll K. Jones (Pittsburgh) published Special Allocations and Preferential Distributions in Joint Ventures Involving Taxable and Tax Exempt Entities in conjunction with the 2004 Woodworth Lecture issue, 31 Ohio N.U. L. Rev. 13 (2005).
