California Bar Imputes Scores for Lost Exams

Photo of letter

En Passant has an interesting story about the February 2005 California Bar Exam — some of the answers to Question #6 of the exam were stolen from a grader’s car, so the Bar "imputed" scores for the missing exams.  The Bar took the higher score determined under pro rata (based on the applicant’s score on the other essay questions) and regression (based on a regression analysis of all of the applicants’ scores) methods "to estimate the score that would have been assigned to an affected applicant’s answer if that answer had been graded."
