U.S. News and World Report rankings of law schools have great influences on morale of faculty, students, alumni, administrators, and other law schools. Almost all of us take a look at the U.S. News rankings and find them interesting reading if nothing else.

I have always thought that law schools (and rankings) should consider the interests and satisfaction of law students. I also think that student and faculty diversity in law schools are important for law schools, especially if one thinks that diversity and excellence go hand in hand. Law schools have come a long way in terms of serving students from the days when I went to law school when academic support, student satisfaction, and related issues were not much discussed and not high up in the law school hierarchy of values. Effective teaching today is generally valued in ways that it was not always.

Law school management is another variable in measuring law schools. How did a school respond to the 2008 recession, the global pandemic, artificial intelligence, and the many other challenges facing law schools? And how should that factor to evaluating law schools?

I never was able to answer these questions but thought them worth considering.
