Brandon DeBot and Kelsey Merrick from the Tax Law Center have published a new blog post, “How Congress Should Quickly Block the President’s Get-out-of-Tax-Free Card.” From the piece:
Members of Congress and observers across the political spectrum have criticized the Administration’s attempts to give the President, his family, and his affiliates an extraordinary release of claims including tax audits while there are reportedly ongoing tax disputes about how much he owes the government. Fortunately, there are decisive steps Congress can take to unwind the sweetheart deal and prevent future attempts at similar presidential self-dealing, as we have previously explained. This post focuses on the audit release aspect of the settlement deal because, unlike the $1.8 billion fund, it is not currently blocked by a court order.
